DANVILLE — Things are looking good for the Blue Devils.
Knox County’s other schools still have some work to do.
Danville held onto the No. 4 spot in Region 27 of Division VII when the Ohio High School Athletic Association released its weekly ratings Tuesday.
The top 16 teams in each region qualify for the playoffs.
The Blue Devils (5-2) are a virtual lock to reach the postseason for a fifth straight season, according to College of Wooster math and data science professor Drew Pasteur on his comprehensive high school football website. Danville hosts Centerburg (5-2) on Friday and Fredericktown (4-3) in Week 9 before closing the season at East Knox (4-3).
Centerburg remained 11th in Region 23 of Division VI this week after last week’s 46-14 win at Mount Gilead. The Trojans have won three straight.
Fredericktown and East Knox are both in contention in Region 18 of Division V. The Freddies held firm at 15th after last week’s 39-14 win at Loudonville. The Bulldogs slipped from 16th to 17th in the region after last week’s 42-0 loss to undefeated Northmor. Fredericktown hosts East Knox on Friday.
Mount Vernon is still in the hunt in Region 7 of Division II despite last week’s overtime loss to Watkins Memorial. The Yellow Jackets (2-5) are 18th in the regional ratings for a second straight week and visit Licking Heights (2-5) on Friday.
The top eight teams in each region are eligible to host a playoff game in the first round.
